GSF Partnership with Kamuli District

Following up on the plight of vulnerable children in Busoga, particularly the young girls who drop out of school because they cannot afford sanitary towels at “that time of the month”, the GSF Board approved the move to Kamuli. We look forward to working with other stakeholders in Busoga, to positively impact the lives of children, youth and the elderly in the areas of education, health, elderly support and sensitization on individual responsibility regarding climate change.

GSF is committed to supporting children stay in school. If the need is school dues, we meet them. If it is basic needs like sanitary pads, we work with our partners and ensure that the young girls are supported with a steady supply of pads. It is very embarrassing for a young
girl to have her school uniform soiled simply because she cannot afford pads. As such, many opt to stay home during those days, which for some last a whole week. Imagine a girl having to miss a whole week of school every month. What happens if exams are set in that very week where she is unable to attend classes? For many of these girls, the monthly period spells the end of their education. They drop out of school and within no time, they are teenage mothers.

Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Kamuli District marks the start of a long-term mutually beneficial relationship between GSF and Kamuli. Special thanks to the Kamuli District leadership for the professionalism with which they serve the people of this part of Busoga!
